The Submariner was developed in 1953 with Jacques-Yves Cousteau and quickly became the quintessential diver’s watch. The 6536 remains one of the rarest and most sought-after Submariners out there, with estimates of only 100 pieces made available when it was released back in 1955, just a few years after the inaugural model. It was released alongside the more abundant 6538, which featured a crown 2mm larger and 100m more water resistance. Although the 6536’s time in the spotlight was brief, it certainly made an impression, becoming a favourite among collectors. It is an early step in perfecting what many deem the brand’s signature creation, as well as one of the most influential dive watches ever made.
This Rolex Submariner 6536 has a black baton dial and a bracelet strap. Due to age, this Rolex may not fall within our typical expected tolerances for timekeeping, and is no longer suitable for use in wet environments or submersion in water. In the interests of preserving original features, utmost care has been taken to sympathetically restore this watch. It has also been referenced against technical documents and manufacturer records where available to ensure authenticity and a clean history. One of our skilled polishing technicians has removed marks on the case and bracelet of this watch, brought about by daily wear and tear, which is why this watch does not come with the remaining manufacturer’s warranty.
